For $JIVE_HOME, the most simple backup solution is to back up the entire contents of this directory. A more selective option is to backup only $JIVE_HOME/applications and $JIVE_HOME/etc. In either case, you should make backups in accordance with standard backup practices.
Before upgrading Jive, you should make a full backup of /usr/local/jive.
