Propose Something

Know that suggestion you've been kicking around in your head -- the one you think could have a big positive outcome? Get it vetted! By creating a community idea -- a special kind of content -- you can get your ideas out there. People will be able to add their comments and vote on your idea.

Weigh in on an idea you like -- or one you don't. In the community, an idea is a special kind of content that you can vote on. A vote up assigns more points to the idea; a vote down usually takes points away. You can easily see what this would do for ideas that people like -- or dislike -- a lot.
  1. Click an ideas tab, such as the tab in the community home page.

On the Ideas page, you'll see a list of the community's ideas.

  2. Filter and sort the ideas to narrow the list to those you want to look at.

  3. Click an idea's title to read more about the idea. If you like the idea, vote up. If you don't like it... well, you know what to do.

You can also comment on the idea if you have more to say.

Create an idea for your idea. You create an idea just as you might create a document.
  1. Click New > Idea. If you're prompted, pick a place for your idea. It's a good idea to put the idea where people who care about that kind of thing are likely to see it.

  2. Give your idea a title.

As you type the title, you might get a list of other community ideas that have similar titles. Take a moment to look over the list, and even take a closer look at titles that look like they might be very similar (you can click a title to view the idea). That way, you can avoid creating an idea that's already been added to the community.

  3. For your idea's content, describe what it is. Notice that you can edit and format here just as you can in other kinds of content.
  4. Under your idea's content, you might see one or two places where you can choose or add special kinds of information.

  5. Enter tags and choose categories (if you have them), then click Create Idea to publish it to the community.
Manage the flow. If you're a system or space administrator, you can choose stages for ideas. Stages are a great way to manage how ideas are making their way through the community. For example, an idea might start in an Active stage, move to an In Progress stage, and eventually end up at a Delivered stage.
  1. While you're logged in as an administrator, find ideas whose stage needs to be updated.
  2. For each idea you're updating, navigate to the idea, edit it, then choose a new value from its Stage dropdown.

  3. Click Update Idea to save your changes.
