Upgrading from the Oracle Thin Driver

To successfully upgrade from the Oracle Thin Driver to the OCI Driver, you'll need to update some configuration files.

Previous versions of Jive supported the Oracle Thin Driver for evaluation purposes. Because support for the Thin Driver has been removed, upgrading to Jive v4.5.6 or higher requires you to first upgrade to the Oracle OCI Driver. The Oracle Instant Client page will provide most of the instructions you need for the actual installation. After installing the driver, you should also complete the following steps:

  1. Stop your jive instance.
  2. Add the applicable LD_LIBRARY_PATH and CLASSPATH lines for the Oracle OCI driver to the /usr/local/jive/applications/sbs/bin/instancefile
  3. Open /usr/local/jive/applications/sbs/home/jive_startup.xml and change the JDBC Connection String from oracle:thin to oracle:oci.
  4. If you also have an Analytics instance that uses the Oracle Thin Driver, connect to your Jive database using a database client such as sqlplus and update the value for the __jive.analytics.database.serverURL name in the jiveProperty table. The following example shows the structure of the SQL command. update jiveProperty set propValue='jdbc:oracle:oci:@' where name='__jive.analytics.database.serverURL';
  5. Restart your Jive instance.
