System Requirements

Learn about the required and supported system elements for installing and running Jive, including Jive for Outlook, Jive for SharePoint, Jive Events, and Jive Ideation. Ensure that the system requirements listed here are met before using Jive. This section describes what you need to install and run Jive effectively.

Supported Jive Versions

  • Jive 9.x
  • Jive Cloud (version 5 or later)
  • Jive 9.0.0 or later.

Jive for Outlook Requirements

To install Jive for Outlook, ensure you have the appropriate versions and service packs for Microsoft Outlook and a supported Windows operating system.

Hardware Requirements

Jive for Outlook requires the same hardware as the currently running version of Microsoft Office, plus at least 40 MB of free disk space.

Jive Software Requirements

Supported Microsoft Outlook and Office Versions

Jive for Outlook is compatible with the following Microsoft Outlook versions:

  • 2007 with Service Pack 2
  • 2010
  • 2013 (with version 2.5 and higher of Jive for Outlook)
  • 2016

Jive for Outlook supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and the bitness of Microsoft Outlook determines the bitness of Jive for Outlook installed on the machine. Currently, Jive for Outlook is available only for Microsoft Windows.

Supported Operating Systems and Additional Requirements

The following operating systems are supported:

  • Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 or higher
  • Windows Vista, with Windows Installer 3.1
  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 10

Additionally, Jive for Outlook requires the following to function correctly:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4
  • The supported version of Internet Explorer; refer to Supported browsers for a list of supported browsers.

Note: When you log in to a community from the application, Jive for Outlook uses the Internet Explorer version installed on the machine, and an alternative browser cannot be used.

Jive for SharePoint Requirements

Supported SharePoint Versions

  • Microsoft SharePoint 2010, 2013, 2016

Server to Server Authentication

  • ADFS/SAML (WS Federation 2005) is available for SharePoint 2013 only.
  • NTLM v2.

SSL Certificates

SSL certificates must be valid on both SharePoint and Jive sides.

Jive General System Requirements

Jive includes most of what you need to run and configure the application for a simple evaluation or development installation, but running it in production requires additional setup, such as configuring a database and a distributed environment with multiple server nodes. Each production instance includes external components which are detailed in the Required external components.

Important Considerations

Remember: You should have a backup plan for your installation. For more information, see Backup and storage considerations.

Additional Requirements

  • Jive Enterprise architecture Jive is compatible with various hardware configurations and network topologies.

  • Hardware Requirements Different server roles (application, cache, Activity Engine, document conversion, and search servers) have suggested hardware specifications.

  • Network Requirements Optimize your network for Jive, particularly in a cloud environment.

  • Sizing Binary Storage To estimate your binary storage needs, consider the likely number of users and the types of materials they may upload.

  • Deployment Sizing and Capacity Planning Plan your hardware capacity based on your community's page view load.

    For cloud environments, you will find specific guidelines on deployment sizing and capacity planning that differ from traditional installations.

  • List of Required Ports and Domains Find the ports you need to open to enable key Jive components and ensure access to certain domains or IP addresses.

Jive Events and Jive Ideation Requirements

An iCalendar-compatible email client can be used to add events created in your Jive community to your email calendar. If advanced incoming email monitoring is enabled for your community, you can still use an iCalendar-compatible email client for this purpose. Software Requirements

  • The current version of Jive Cloud.
  • Jive 9.0.0 or later.

Analytics System Requirements

Before using the add-ons and Analytics in Jive, ensure the following system requirements are met.

General Requirements

  • Ensure your Analytics database is on a different host computer than the Jive web application and your Jive core database. Create this database before installing the Community Manager Reports plugin.
  • The analytics database is supported only on PostgreSQL and Oracle DBMS. For more information, see Supported database engines.

Important Note: Do not disable Cloud Analytics, as it is required for services such as Impact Metrics, the Leaderboard, and Views of Answered Questions reports.
