Ask Me Anything add-on

The Ask Me Anything (AMA) add-on is essential for running effective Ask Me Anything sessions. It facilitates real-time Q&A, allowing users to ask questions while hosts can easily view and answer them in a dedicated interface.

How it works​

To start an AMA session, add an Ask Me Anything tile to a dedicated place. This will display the tile, inviting users to participate:

Users can:​

  • Submit their questions in the tile.
  • Verify if a similar question has already been posted by filtering by Answered, Unanswered, or All questions.
  • Sort questions chronologically.
  • Vote (by liking) and comment on questions posted by others.

All posted questions are published to the selected place as items of the Question content type, tagged for easy categorization later.

Hosts can access a specialized interface:​

Hosts who answer the questions simply navigate to Pencil icon > Ask Me Anything - Host View. This opens a tailored view for managing and responding to questions.

In the Host View, hosts can:

  • View all questions posted during sessions.
  • Filter questions by Answered, Unanswered, or All questions.
  • Sort questions chronologically.
  • View questions from specific sessions using a filtering system.
  • Enable or disable auto-refresh for the questions stream.
  • Export filtered questions with responses using the Download icon.

Note: @-mentions are not supported in the Host View; this feature may be added in future releases.

Important Note: Only one session can be held in each place at a time.

How an AMA place may look like​

Here is an example of how an Ask Me Anything place may look during an active AMA session.

For this example, the following tiles are used:

  • An Ask Me Anything tile for asking questions and viewing answers.
  • A Formatted Text tile for the AMA session description.
  • A Countdown tile to show the time remaining until the AMA session ends.
  • A Grid Layout tile to present the Host.

Terms used​

  • AMA: Ask Me Anything, an interview format where one person shares information through questions and answers during a specified period.
  • AMA session: A defined period when the Host or Hosts answer audience questions. This usually includes preparation for gathering questions and a 'live' period for real-time responses.
  • Host: The person who answers questions during an AMA. Each session requires one or more Hosts.
