Badges

Badges are ways to reward a person for completing a specific mission or quest, or for showing appreciation from other users. Badges also provide a persistent notation on the person’s profile of their accomplishments. When users receive a badge, they are alerted in their Inbox, and badges can also be viewed on profile pages, hover cards, and leaderboards. Badges are earned automatically when a user achieves a new points level or completes a mission or quest in your community or an external system. Additionally, users can give badges to one another, fostering community engagement and recognition.

You can use the built-in badges provided in Jive Rewards, or you can upload new images for badges that are tailored to your community objectives.

Where badges are configured?

There are several types of badges in the community, and they are configured differently.

Mission badges : These badges are awarded when users complete missions. Mission badges track activities in a specific area and have numbers on them to show the level of achievement for a mission. For example, the Author mission gains levels as users create and tag content or have content bookmarked. You can configure these badges on the Strategy page in the Rewards console. The recommended image size is 300 x 300 pixels, and the maximum size is 800 x 800 pixels; the recommended format is JPEG, but you can use other image types.

Level badges : These badges are awarded when users pass level thresholds and reflect the user's current level. Notification of a new level and associated level badge is delivered in the Latest Acclaim in the Inbox, along with a leaderboard showing point totals for other users close to the same level. The image size should be 100 x 100 pixels; the recommended format is JPEG, but you can use other image types. You can configure these badges on the Levels page in the Rewards console.

Quest badges : These badges are awarded when users complete quests, which are sets of specific activities they must perform. Some quests may only be completable once, while others allow users to complete them multiple times, resetting activity counters and becoming available again after completion. You can configure these badges on the Quests page in the Rewards console. The recommended image size is 300 x 300 pixels, and the maximum size is 800 x 800 pixels; the recommended format is JPEG, but you can use other image types.

User badges : These are badges that users in the community can grant to each other. Users can also include points to give up points along with the badge; in this case, the total number of points of the sender is reduced by the number of points granted. You can configure these badges on the User Badges page in the Rewards console. The recommended image size is 300 x 300 pixels, and the maximum size is 800 x 800 pixels; the recommended format is JPEG, but you can use other image types.

Where do users see badges?

Users are alerted in the Inbox and activity streams when they receive badges, depending on the reason for receiving the badge. They can see badges on their profile pages, hover cards, and in the leaderboards. They can view all their rewards on the Rewards tab in their profile, alongside the rewards of other users.
